Spotsylvania County provides fire and rescue services through a combination system. That is, volunteer and career providers working together to deliver this essential service to the citizens and visitors of our County.
The volunteer ranks consist of more than 300 firefighters, EMTs, medics, ambulance drivers, and administrative personnel serving as members of the Spotsylvania Volunteer Fire Department, Spotsylvania Volunteer Rescue Squad, and the Chancellor Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department.
Volunteers staff the County’s fire and rescue stations from 6:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 6:00 p.m. Friday through 5:00 a.m. Monday. This creates an abundance of opportunities for civic minded members of the community to learn new skills and give back to their community.
Members of the county’s three volunteer agencies receive extensive training conducted by certified and experienced firefighters and medics. The courses of study are identical to those taken by career providers, and lead to certification by the appropriate state agencies.
